Less than a month ago, independent artist Alan Z returned on the scene with a new single, “Pay Me,” and music video. Making a full move away from January 2017’s original song “Distance,” Alan Z lets listeners and naysayers know that he’s not the 1, 2 or 3 to play with in this new chapter of his career.
“I ain’t doin’ nothing free, so let the cash go” is the motto as the song and video takes viewers on a ride to exact revenge on shady music executives. As Alan Z sings and spits bars over the Beat Dilla produced track, he uses the music video as a much needed jab at the lack of diversity in the mainstream hip-hop game. Alan not only delivers a song with a catchy chorus and some jaw-dropping zingers (Tiger Wood at the 1:55 mark, anyone?), but also makes a statement about who and what is considered a “real rapper” in the game.
