Actor Kim Woo-bin Diagnosed With Rare Cancer

At the end of March 2017, entertainment agency SidusHQ released a statement revealing that 27-year-old actor Kim Woo-Bin has been diagnosed with and will receive treatment for nasopharyngeal cancer.

According to, nasopharyngeal cancer is “a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the tissues of the nasopharynx. The nasopharynx is the upper part of the pharynx (throat) behind the nose.”

In their statement, SidusHQ explains that Woo-bin visited a hospital because he was not feeling well and the cancer was discovered. Doctors caught the illness early enough to begin treatment immediately.

HQ’s official Facebook page has been flooded with well-wishes, prayers, and encouragement for a swift and full recovery. News of the actor’s diagnosis has been met with an outpouring of support from fans and fellow celebrities.

Kim Woo-bin began his career with modeling and supportive roles in dramas such as A “Gentleman’s Dignity.” He played one of the main characters, Choi Young-do, in the hit show “Heirs” (The Heirs) alongside Lee Min-ho and Park Shin-hye. More recently, he starred in the 2015 coming-of-age comedy “Twenty” as well the 2016 drama “Uncontrollably Fond”, in which he played the romantic interest of actress Suzy. Woo-bin also performed the song “Picture in My Head” for the drama’s original soundtrack.

In the 2016 crime film “Master”, Woo-Bin plays a clever criminal with actors Kang Dong-Won and Lee Byung-Hun. The film was ranked 27th on the list of highest grossing films since 2004 in Korea by the Korean Film Council (KOFIC). Future projects will be pushed back during the course of his treatment.
