The critically acclaimed series Downton Abbey is back for the movie fans have been waiting for.

Love British television? Adore historical dramas? If so, there is a good chance you’re familiar with the well-loved PBS show, Downton Abbey. The historical depiction of elegant life in the early 1900s. The show first came onto the scene in 2010, departing in 2015 after six fantastic seasons.
Downtown Abbey around the lives of the wealthy Crawley family, the resilient help and how their world changes with the times. Actor Hugh Bonneville leads the family as Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham. Elizabeth McGovern plays the role of his wife, Cora, the Countess of Grantham. Their three daughters, Mary, Edith, and Sybil are portrayed by Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, and Jessica Brown Findlay respectively with Maggie Smith playing the role of the delightfully snappy Dowager Countess. Star of FX’s Legion, Dan Stevens, enters in season one as Matthew, Mary’s love interest, and they are joined by Allen Leech, who plays the role of Tom Branson, the family chauffeur.
Tom joins the story as one of the many staff at the Grantham Estate. Like so many others working “downstairs” for the Crawley family, there is more to him than meets the eye. Brendan Coyle portrays the firm but soft-spoken John Bates alongside Carson (Jim Carter), who holds tightly to his role as the butler at Downton Abbey. Lily James, Phyllis Logan, Joanne Froggatt, Gary Carr, Robert James-Collier, and Sophie McShera are only a few names from the extensive, wonderful cast that appears in the halls of Downton Abbey over the shows many seasons.
As stated in the PBS description above, the series takes the family and their home staff through a number of trials and surprises. War, class, race, love, money, death and expectations are only a few of the issues that the characters must grapple with. Downton Abbey offers a look at how two groups of people can live entirely separate lives under one grand roof. Fans can hope to see the return of many familiar faces for the Downton Abbey movie, which is slated to begin production in 2018.
According to the Associated Press, “Michael Edelstein, president at NBCUniversal International Studios, said it hopes to assemble 20 cast members from the popular TV series.”
Downton Abbey has aired in one hundred and fifty countries. With fans around the world eagerly awaiting its release, the Downton Abbey movie will no doubt be as well received as the series that came before it.
