Australian rock band, The Dingoes vocalist Broderick Smith, passed away on Sunday, his family has announced. According to a statement issued by his son Ambrose Kenny-Smith, Smith, 75, ‘died peacefully at home’ over the weekend. The Dingoes were a successful country rock band in the 1970s, but they never released any singles in the UK, despite having several hits back home. After its debut on foreign record labels, the group had three albums in a row that charted in the top 40, including the 1973 hit single Way Out West. Smith was in the band Carson in 1972, when they had a hit with “Boogie” and their album, Blown, peaked in the top 30.

Smith arrived in Australia in 1959 after leaving England as a ‘Ten Pound Pom’ in the aided migration programme for people from the United Kingdom. Kenny-Smith eventually joined the Australian psychedelic rock band King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard as a vocalist, harmonica player, and percussionist.
