What Happened To Charles White? 

Charles White, a USC Heisman Trophy winner, passed away at the age of 64. White, the all-time leading rusher for the Trojans with 6,245 yards, passed away, according to USC.

According to the school, the nine-year NFL veteran passed away in Newport Beach, California, from cancer.

He was the toughest athlete I’ve ever coached, according to White’s former head coach at USC and with the Los Angeles Rams, John Robinson.

Cause Of Death Of Charles White

Cancer caused Charles White’s death on January 11, 2023. White, a Los Angeles native who played college football at the University of Southern California and was an All-American, won the Heisman Trophy during that time.

He was chosen by the Cleveland Browns and the Los Angeles Rams in the 1980 NFL Draft’s first round, 27th overall, respectively.

While attending the University, White participated in football for the USC Trojans. White received the W.J. Voit Memorial Trophy in 1978 for being the top Pacific Coast college football player.

Out of the four players who played in the Rose Bowl, he is the second to win Player of the Game twice. White is survived by his ex-wife Judianne White-Basch, his five children, and a grandchild. There is still no word on the memorial service.

Who Was Charles White?

Charles White concluded his career as the second-most prolific rusher in Trojan history and three-time Heisman Trophy winner for USC.

White, who filled in for Ricky Bell, carried for 858 yards and 10 touchdowns in his rookie campaign. While leading the Trojans, he led the nation in rushing yards. White led the Trojans in rushing in each of his final three seasons.

He also won the Walter Camp, Maxwell, and Pop Warner Awards following his senior year. He won the Rose Bowl MVP title in both of the games in the 1978 and 1979 seasons.

White, the third of USC’s eight Heisman winners in school history, is still regarded highly at what was once known as Tailback U.
