His UFC career was the primary source of his notoriety. Colares began his MMA career in July 2013 and was invited to compete in the UFC after going 8-0 in his first professional bouts.

In a horrific car crash on May 1, 2023, Colares lost his life. The mixed martial artist was hit by a bus on his way back to his hotel after a workout in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His coach said that they tried to get him to the Hospital Rocha Faria in Campo Grande as soon as possible, but he died from massive blood loss on the way there. Known mostly for his time in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Brazilian MMA fighter Felipe Colares competed in the Bantamweight class. He began judo training at age seven after being born on March 31, 1994. At the age of 15, he began training in Taekwondo, Muay Thai, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Colares, who was only 29 years old when he died in a car crash on May 1, 2023, met a sad end. On his way back from the gym in Rio de Janeiro, he was apparently struck by a bus and killed. His trainer Rodrigo Balbi reported to Combate that the fire service had saved Colares but that he had died en route to Hospital Rocha Faria in Campo Grande.

Colares fought Geraldo de Freitas for the first time in the UFC on February 2, 2019, at UFC Fight Night: Assunço vs. Moraes 2. The judges all agreed that he had been defeated.
On July 20, 2019, at UFC on ESPN: dos Anjos vs. Edwards, Colares fought Domingo Pilarte at bantamweight. He won by a razor-thin margin of judges’ scores.

At UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs. dos Santos on January 25, 2020, Colares fought Montel Jackson.The judges all agreed that he had been defeated.

On November 7, 2020, at UFC Fight Night 182, Colares and Gustavo Lopez were slated to square off. He was supposed to fight Gustavo Lopez in a bantamweight battle, but he had to back out due to a positive COVID-19 test.

On May 1, 2021, at UFC on ESPN 23, Colares was slated to battle Journey Newson. In a featherweight match scheduled for 1 May 2021 at UFC on ESPN 23, Newson withdrew and was replaced by Luke Sanders, whose opponent also withdrew from the event. Colares was knocked down many times in the opening round, but he still managed to win the fight by unanimous decision.
