Sixteen years ago, I played “Kingdom Hearts” for the very first time. I can clearly remember being enthralled and enchanted. The impact that game had on my childhood continued through a sequel and several games in between. Perhaps the most impressive thing is that fans’ love for the franchise has lasted this long. As an adult, I can still say that “Kingdom Hearts 3” is easily the game I have looked most forward to.
Sixteen years between the first game and the third is an incredibly long time. The official date has been set for January 29, 2019, which left plenty of time for coverage at this year’s E3 Conference. Fans can expect to see stunning new game play and jaw-dropping changes to the game mechanics such as larger player parties to updated magic.
The Disney universe has come to include dozens of new characters over the last decade. It has been confirmed that the new “KH3” worlds will include favorites such as “Frozen,” “Pirates of The Caribbean” and “Toy Story,” but who will be left out? Furthermore, where will Sora‘s story take them all? Creator Tetsuya Nomura said that the game will deliver “dark and shocking moments,” but did not reveal whether or not “KH3” will be the last chapter in Sora’s story.
Sora is not the only character returning to KH3. Donald, Goofy, Mickey, Kairi, Rikku, the hooded villains of Organization XIII and nearly all of the main characters from the past games made appearances or were mentioned in the E3 2018 showcase. So, what will all of this mean when “KH3” is finally released for the PS4 and Xbox One?
The E3 coverage is only the tip of the iceberg. Nomura’s dedication to keeping a lid on spoilers further implies what fans already know. “Kingdom Heart 3” will blow the previous games out of the water and sweep players into a magical dream all over again.
