Natsu Dragneel and his friends are back for a new full-length film titled “Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry.”
For those not familiar with the series, the story of “Fairy Tail” starts off with a young wizard by the name of Lucy Heartfilia who embarks on a journey to join the country’s most famous guild, “Fairy Tail”. Along the way she befriends the impulsive yet loyal fire-eating wizard Natsu Dragneel and his flying companion Happy who just so happen to be a part of the very guild, Lucy desires to join.
From meeting the ice-wielding stripper Gray Fullbuster to teaming up with the courageous armor-clad Erza Scarlet, Lucy’s time with Fairy Tail is far from what she expected.
In “Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry,” Team Natsu are tasked with retrieving an ancient artifact by the name of Dragon Cry. They are to infiltrate the Kingdom of Stella and obtain the artifact before it falls into the wrong hands.
This will be the second film in the franchise, the first being “Fairy Tail the Movie: Phoenix Priestess” which was released in 2012.
To give movie goers the full cinematic experience, some of the top professionals in the animation industry have been enlisted to help. Tatsuma Minamikawa, who has been a part of the development of other well-known animes such as “Naruto Shippuden” and “Attack on Titan”, will be the director. Other big names joining Tatsuma are Shoji Yonemura who will provide the script and Yuuko Yamada the overseer for the character designs.
International fans will not have to wait a year for the release of the DVD or dub version of the movie. The creator, Hiro Mashima, confirmed on his official Twitter that the movie will not only be shown in Japan but in fifteen different countries, including the U.S.
With the manga on its final arc and the anime set to return later this year, “Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry” is set to be series’ climax.
The film is set to open in Japan on May 6th.
