Some people are willing to do whatever it takes to be able to become the main leader of an idol group. A lot of people want to be in a successful idol group that everyone loves, but it’s not every day that the cost of being popular would come with the cost of becoming cursed. In the Korean horror movie “White”, it explores the fact that being the main member of a popular idol group isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be and that some songs are not meant to be heard.
“White: Melody of the Curse” came out in 2011 and follows the unpopular idol group Pink Dolls. The four members include Eun-Ju a former break dancer, Je-Ni who’s insecure with hitting high notes, Ah-Rang who is addicted to plastic surgery and Sin-Ji who cannot sing but is good at rapping and dancing. After coming upon an old music video with an unknown source, the idol group becomes an overnight success and soars in its popularity. Due to its high demand, the main leader must be chosen.
Each time a main is chosen some sort of horrific accident happens and the singer gets hospitalized. The only one to realize that something was wrong was Eun-Ju. She asks her friend Soon-Ye to look into the original members who originally sung the song in the music video and finds out the many dark secrets that were held in that studio. Coming to the conclusion that the song itself was cursed, Eun-Ju and Soon-Ye desperately try to stop the curse before it is too late.
The overall movie itself was very creative incorporating the use of both music and horror to really give a great scare! The movie can be found online and I highly recommend it for those who love idol groups and horror all mashed together!
