Meet J’Nique Nicole an American singer-songwriter currently residing in Japan. Nicole is known for teaming up with one of the world’s biggest gaming developers, Square Enix, to pen and sing music for the award-winning video game “Nier: Automata.” She has also worked with highly respected artists such as Kubota Toshinobu and Ai.


Born in Texas to African-American parents, J’Nique moved to Japan at the age of three and moved back to the States at twelve years old. Nicole’s love for music comes from her family’s extensive musical background. Her parents are both well-known performers in Japan, and her grandfather, the late Gene Allison, was a pioneering Soul/R&B singer known for his hit song “You Can Make It If You Try.”


In 2012, Nicole moved back to Japan after graduating college to pursue a career in music and met fellow “Automata” singer Emi Evans. 

By 2016, Nicole was presented with the opportunity to work with Square Enix. She wrote and sang the English lyrics to the “Nier: Automata” theme song, “Weight Of The World” and later won her first award for Outstandng Solo Artist at the Annual Game Music Awards in 2017.

The singer is set release her first album, “This Is Only The Beginning,” on May 21.
