On May 20, 2017, J-Pop icon Ayumi Hamasaki announced that she is losing her ability to hear out of her right ear. This coupled with the loss of hearing in her left ear will slowly put Ayumi on the road to losing her hearing completely.
Ayumi became ill and caught an ear infection. Despite the doctor’s warnings to keep away from loud noises, Ayumi continued with her tour, and her condition worsened throughout the years.
She spoke about the situation on her blog, TeamAyu, on May 20, admitting that she had been suffering from dizziness and severe sickness.
Ayumi Hamasaki has been in the music scene since 1998, debuting under Avex at the age of nineteen. Since then, Ayumi has risen to become the best-selling Japanese female artist of all time, selling over 50 million records.
She is widely known for her versatility in genres, penning heartbreaking ballads like “Dearest,” which was used as the third ending theme for the anime Inuyasha, and powerful rock hits like “Warning.”
Despite her recent health concerns, Ayumi continues to persevere and focus on her music.
2018 marks Ayumi Hamasaki’s 20th anniversary. To celebrate the occasion she will go on tour. Her “Ayumi hamasaki ARENA TOUR 2018 ～POWER of MUSIC 20th Anniversary～” will kick off on April 7 at the Saitama Super Arena.
Let’s all celebrate with Ayumi and wish her well!
