Independent producer Tiger-J has announced the release of his fourth EP, “Heart & Soul.” He currently has a discography that contains three EPs, three full-length albums and one repackaged album, all released in the past year.
The Toronto native names this EP as his most personal, as it establishes his artistic and musical identity.
“With previous releases, everything was about the scene created. I was moved by a picture my mind created, and I created the soundtrack to match. This time, I went with what felt comfortable. I created music that was calming and soothing to me. It’s certainly slower than my other projects, but it feels right,” the 26-year-old states.
The EP is a mix of jazz, R&B and hip-hop, with a dash of pop, rock and EDM. Some tracks include “Lullaby,” a track reminiscent of Barry White and Teddy Pendergrass, and “Take My Leave (Dancing Away),” the only EDM track on the EP.
When asked what his other projects meant to him, he had this to say:
“The ‘Tiger-J’ EP was my opportunity to set myself apart from what I have heard from other artists. The first track on that EP came from a mental scene of entering and observing an emperor in his throne room and the command he has over his court. The ‘Enter the Lair’ EP is probably the most special to me, as it was inspired by conversations by those dear to me, one of which being my mother. But the one I am most proud of is a tie between the ‘Light & Dark’ EP and the ‘Scenes’ album. I really pushed myself to create a concept and follow it though. I’m really pleased with how those turned out.”
Although he releases projects quite often, he never plans when they will be available.
“It reminds me of when I was growing up. You waited for the release of the album. There were no advance single releases that were available weeks before. All you had to go on was the announcements and maybe the music video. I want to keep that mystery when I release music. You never know when I’m going to do it, but you know it’s coming.”
The “Heart & Soul” EP will be released on Sept. 8, 2017 and will be available for purchase on tigerjmusic.com. Teasers for each track will appear on his SoundCloud. The EP will also be available for streaming on YouTube.
