Justin Park earns the praise and thanks of his fans with his debut album, “Places Like Home.” The R&B singer released the 14-track album on Dec. 7, 2018. It includes his previously released debut single “Dates In LA” as well as  “XL Uber,” a collaboration with K-pop girl crush Amber Liu of f(x). The album is chock full of urban beats and midtempo grooves that are guaranteed to have your feet tapping and shoulders bouncing. Justin is currently touring with Amber on her “Gone Rogue” tour. I was among the privileged to hear a few of the new songs performed live during the Washington DC stop. Justin’s charisma overflowed on stage as he hyped the crowd up effortlessly with his music. I can strongly say that if someone wasn’t a fan at the beginning of his set, they were by the end.

I’ve written about Justin’s singles before, and what I’ve said about them still stands. So, let’s focus on the new music from the album. Up until this point, I’ve known him to create songs to dance to and can easily put a smile on your face. When I heard the first 15 seconds of “Sciario Melara,” I was surprised. I knew this song was going to be a lot more impactful than his others. To be clear, it’s a great song. It just makes me want to go out and smash something or someone, or maybe just intensify my workout. I’m not sure yet, but it definitely hits harder than the others and raises the temperature.

With so many hits on the album, I had to really think which one I could call my favorite. Some of Justin’s older songs are still such bops for me that I kept including those too.  But even still, while I wrote this article, the one song I’ve kept on repeat was “Lo-Fi.” This song is it. I’m telling you. This song made my heart thump as soon as the bass and guitar came in. It makes me think of summer barbecues with friends and family coming together to have a dance off. It’s basically a summer bop in the middle of winter. “Places Like Home” is a solid debut album for Justin, and after hearing him perform live, I’m even more convinced that this is only the beginning for him.
