“Fruits Basket” is back!

The beloved 1998 manga written by Natsuki Takaya first aired as an anime in 2001. Seventeen years later, Funimation is releasing a brand-new anime adaption on their streaming service, FunimationNow.

Takaya served as the executive supervisor for the new anime, so fans can rest assured that the story will remain true to her vision in the manga, which was one of the best-selling shojo mangas at the time of its release.

The members of the Sohma clan will return en force. Tohru Honda, the series’ titular character, is a cheerful young high school girl who finds herself in a rather unusual predicament after she comes to live under the same roof as her classmate, Yuki Sohma, and his cousins, Kyo and Shigure Sohma. The members of the Sohma family suffer from a curse that binds each of them to one animal of the Chinese zodiac. If one of them us hugged by a member of the opposite sex or finds themselves under significant stress, they transform into the animal they are bound to.

Living in a house with three cursed men quickly becomes the least of Tohru’s worries. While juggling more eccentric members of the Sohma family and struggling to keep their secret, Tohru discovers that their is a darker side to the curse, and breaking it will be no easy task.

Look for Tohru and her zodiac friends in the new adaption of “Fruits Basket” next year!
