Highly anticipated Korean Historical drama, Scarlet Heart: Ryeo (Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo) is set to air after the conclusion of popular drama, Doctor Crush on August 29, 2016. Based of of the Chinese novel, Bu Bu Jing Xin, Scarlet Heart: Ryeo is about a 21st-century woman is taken back into the Goryeo Dynasty and finds herself amongst the princes of the dynasty. As IU’s character, Hae Soo, becomes wrapped up in the battle for the crown and throne between the prince, she also finds herself in the middle of a romance between a few of the princes.

  • Singer-songwriter and actress, IU, is the female lead of the drama and she has worked on previously successful dramas such as Producers and Dream High. With her cute looks, she is sure to draw in a lot of fans of not only her music but her performance in acting as well. Alongside with IU, are the male leads who will be playing the princes of the Goryeo Dynasty
  • Veteran actor, Lee Joon Ki (Scholar Who Walks The Night, Arang and the Magistrate) is one of the male leads and love interests, who is playing the role of the Prince Wang So.
  • Kang Ha Neul (Heirs, To The Beautiful You) plays the Prince Wang Wook.
  • Making his drama debut, Byun Baekhyun, of popular K-Pop boy band EXO, will be playing Prince Wang Eun
  • Nam Joo Hyuk (Cheese In The Trap) joins as Prince Wook
  • Hong Jong Hyun (Beloved) will be playing Prince Wang Yo
  • Kim Ji Soo will be playing as Prince Wang Jung
  • Kim San Ho will be playing the first price, Prince Wang Mu

Lee Joon Ki, IU & Kang Ha Neul chemistry


With Lee Joon Ki and Kang Ha Neul as the lead men in  Scarlet Heart: Ryeo, there is much anticipation of how IU will be interacting with the leads. IU has already proven do work well with her counterparts in her previous dramas, so as the drama is soon to air and teaser pictures of Lee Joon Ki and Kang Ha Neul together with IU is only building up the excitement for the drama.


Similar to the popular drama, Uncontrollably Fond, Scarlet Heart: Ryeo is also a pre-produced and pre-recorded drama. This means that the script and storyline of the drama has been completed before the airing of an episode. Fans and viewers can expect that the drama will be at the best of its quality, especially since it is directed by Kim Kyu Tae, who has directed the hit drama, It’s Okay, It’s Love and adapted by Joo Yoon Young (who had worked on Cinderella Man).

  1. The drama is good in certain aspects. I only watch this for Lee Jun Ki tbh. Netizens are hating on IU’s acting but she actually did well and her acting actually improved. Anyway, what I hate about the drama is Hae Soo’s poor character development. Seriously, as a 21st century woman, I thought she would have been stronger, braver, know better but no she became coward and she depended too much on her lovers. At the same time, she treats So like a piece of trash. She always puts other people first rather than the man he loves. The poor guy is always suffering because of her.
