Can a human and a robot fall in love? Let’s take a look at the hit high-tech drama “Are You Human Too?” and find out.
Actor Seo kang-joon (5uprise, “Entourage”) plays the role of Nam Shin, a handsome, wealthy heir. He is poised to take over the family conglomerate, the PK Group, but his powerful position is jeopardized when an accident lands him in a coma. His mother, Rora (Kim Sung-ryung), is a brilliant scientist and an expert in artificial intelligence. Desperate to give her son a second chance and maintain his status as heir, she creates a look-alike android to masquerade as Nam Shin. This android is named Nam Shin III and has all of the physical traits of Nam Shin plus the enhanced abilities and physical strength of a robot. He does not, however, have a human personality.
Nam Shin III must learn to be the human Nam Shin if Rora’s plan is to succeed. He must fool everyone from Nam Shin’s fiancée, Seo Ye-na (Park Hwan-hee), to her father, who is scheming to take over the PK Group. Nam Shin’s secretary and sole friend, Ji Young-hoon (Lee Joon-hyung), acts as a handler of sorts for Nam Shin III and gives him lessons on how to be the real deal. Naturally, they encounter a number of hilarious setbacks along the way.
Luckily, Nam Shin III has backup in the form of Kang So-bong (Gong Seung-yeon). She is a former MMA fighter who became a bodyguard after an injury ended her career. She is tasked with protecting Nam Shin III and soon develops a genuine affection for him. They work together to get to the bottom of the conspiracy that led to Nam Shin’s accident, all the while maintaining their elaborate facade. Unfortunately, protecting the real Nam Shin is not Nam Shin III’s only problem. As he grows closer to So-bong, he begins to develop feelings of his own and question what it truly means to be human.
