Who is Baker Mayfield? Net Worth 2022 and More!

Baker Mayfield

James and Gina Mayfield welcomed Baker Reagan into the world in Austin, Texas on April 14, 1995. He had a sibling who was five years older and the second child, Matt Mayfield. In his close-knit, fiercely competitive family, Baker always focused on winning games against his siblings and parents, whether it was ping pong, checkers, hide-and-seek, a throwing contest, or a game of “pig” or “horse” in the driveway. He approached and practised everything with a sense of enjoyment, but also with the goal of succeeding. Activities for Baker’s buddies were always being planned. Once more, the idea of camaraderie with rivalry pervaded everything.

He continued this pattern in high school, playing baseball and football his whole four-year career. Following the injury to his close friend and leading quarterback, Colin Lagasse, Baker finally took over as the Lake Travis Cavaliers’ head coach during the team’s opening game of his junior season. As the Cavaliers’ starting quarterback from that point on, Baker helped LT win its fifth consecutive 4A State Championship by guiding the team to a 25-2 record in two seasons. His passing yardage total in high school football was 6,255 with 67 touchdowns and 8 interceptions.

Baker chose to reject down offers from Rice, Florida Atlantic, and Washington State in the summer of 2013 and walk-on to the University of Texas Tech after his father’s foresightful advice. Mayfield was named the Red Raiders’ starting quarterback just before the start of the season after walking on just a few months earlier. Mayfield is the only walk-on true freshman quarterback to ever start the first game of a season for a Division I programme.

Professional career

season of 2018

With the Browns trailing 14-0 and playing on Thursday Night Football against the New York Jets in Week 3, Mayfield entered his first regular-season contest in place of an injured Tyrod Taylor. He completed 17 of 23 passes for 201 yards as the Browns rallied to win 21-17, snapping a 19-game winless drought (635 days). After Fran Tarkenton in 1961, Mayfield became the first player to enter the game off the bench, throw for more than 200 yards, and win the game.

A 26-18 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 16 earned Mayfield the AFC Offensive Player of the Week award. He completed 27 of 37 throws for 284 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. He also took home the sixth Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week fan vote. For his improper behaviour during the game on December 29, Mayfield was penalised $10,026. Mayfield reportedly “pretended to show his private parts” to Browns offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens after tossing a touchdown to tight end Darren Fells, according to The Plain Dealer. Later, Kitchens defended the action as an inside joke between them. The fine would be challenged, according to Mayfield’s agent Tom Mills.
