Scottish actor Stevie Allen, best known for his role as Manky Frankie in Still Game, has passed away, and many have paid tribute to him in the wake of his passing.

They say he’s “a great man” and “full of fun,” yet he only appeared in three episodes from 2002 and 2004. Before retraining as a paramedic with the Scottish Ambulance Service, Allen appeared in episodes of Taggart and Macbeth The actor added that Hemphill was “gutted” to learn of Allen’s passing. He was only out on Still Game for a short time, but he made an impression.
Isa herself, Jane McCarry, paid homage to the actor, whom she met while he was a science technician at Glasgow’s King’s Park Secondary School before he became famous. “I’m very sorry to hear this,” she exclaimed. Since I was 12 years old, I’ve known him. In the early 1980s, he was a science technician at my school.
Around then, I regularly ran into him at the Glasgow Arts Centre. He was a wonderful human being, sincere and hilarious. To which actor Colin McCredie said, “A great person. An Academy freshman the year after me. We even did some Taggarts together.
When asked about his acquaintance with Stevie at the outset of his career, 2003 guest performer Tom Urie said, “I knew Stevie from the very beginning of my career at the Byre Theatre in St Andrews.” He was a fantastic performer and a really kind person.
Who was Stevie Allen?
Scottish actor Stevie Allen guest starred on the show often from its first season in 2002 until its final in 2004. In his first episode, Stevie is introduced when main character Jack Jarvis (Jack Jarvis) and sidekick Victor McDade (Greg Hemphill) smash down his door to investigate the death of a neighbour and find a chaotic scene inside. He shared the spotlight in the Scottish comedy for a short time with Greg Hemphill and Paul Riley.
He was well-known for his penchant for useless knickknacks and his penchant for dismantling cars and leaving the parts in the common areas of his Osprey Heights building.
Stevie has appeared in a number of productions over his career, including two episodes of Taggart in 1995 and 1996, in which he played Len and Rory Cassidy.
The late actor’s television career ended after only three episodes of Still Game. In 2004, he had his last show air. According to reports, Stevie also served as a paramedic for the Scottish Ambulance Service until his untimely passing.
