Martell Williams and his family are now demanding an apology from the department of police for this mishap. A teen boy had to go through the nightmarish process of law and order when he was wrongfully accused of a Dollar Store shooting and shoplifting incident by the cops. After the adolescent child was wrongfully jailed, his parents is demanding an apology from Waukegan authorities and the high school. Martell Williams, a 15-year-old student, was playing a school basketball game in Lincolnshire on the night of the shoplifting.
Martell was pulled out from his once I reached the office there were two officers there. As soon as I got in, they didn’t tell me nothing,” Martin told the media. “They just said, you’re under arrest. They didn’t even tell him a shooting was involved,” told Kevin O’Connor, Williams’ attorney. “They just said, ‘Hey, it wasn’t your fault. Just tell us you were defending yourself. Just go ahead and tell us you were there and we will let you go home.’”
Martell also said that the department was trying to bribe him with a meal from the fast-food restaurant, McDonald’s. They wanted a confession from the innocent boy at any cost.
The family of Martell has asked the police to take responsibility for their ignorance and apologize to the child and the community for such a traumatic mistake on their part. The false arrest was made in reference to a gunshot at a Dollar Store on February 4. Martell, the juvenile, who also happened to be Black, was wrongfully charged with attempted murder and aggravated violence by the cops. Waukegan Deputy Chief of Administration Joe Florip told Newsweek that Williams has been eliminated as a suspect in the case, but did not comment further.
