According to Stereogum, Fred White started performing and touring with Donny Hathaway when he was a teenager. He was born Frederick Eugene Adams in Chicago in 1955. On the 1972 release of Hathaway’s “Live” record, he provided the drumming.

According to the music news outlet, White joined Verdine and their half-brother Maurice White in Earth, Wind & Fire in 1974 and contributed to classics including “Shining Star,” “September,” and “Boogie Wonderland.”

Jazz, R&B, Funk, Disco, and Soul were the band’s primary influences, and they went on to sell more than 90 million albums worldwide. Earth, Wind & Fire has six Grammys, was included in the 2005 Super Bowl halftime show, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000.

White departed the group in the middle of the 1980s, but he came back for their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. Earth, Wind & Fire have garnered four American Music Awards and six Grammy Awards over the years.
