Update on Warriors star Stephen Curry’s injury: he will be sidelined indefinitely with torn ligaments and membranes in his leg.

Star player Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors has been sidelined indefinitely after sustaining a lower leg contusion and partial rips to his superior tibiofibular ligaments and interosseous membrane, the team revealed on Sunday. According to Shams Charania, he will be sidelined for several weeks due to his injuries; a specific timetable will be released at a later date.

The injury occurred Saturday night during the Warriors’ 119-113 win against the Dallas Mavericks, who were missing Luka Doncic. While attempting to stop a drive by Mavericks guard McKinley Wright IV, Curry seemed to collide with him at the knees in the third quarter. When Curry’s leg buckled inward, he had to leave the game.

On Sunday, head coach Steve Kerr reassured fans that Curry will return this season.

As a result of a left shoulder subluxation, Curry sat out 11 games earlier this season. The diminutive Curry has never been very confident in his durability. He was sidelined for 18 games in 2018–19 and has played in only five so far this season. His early career was derailed by a string of ankle ailments, but he overcame those setbacks to mature into a player worthy of MVP consideration.

For a Golden State squad that has been underachieving this season, Curry’s lengthy absence would be devastating. Warriors are 27-26 after 53 games despite being defending champions. While they are the seventh seed in the Western Conference at the moment, the conference is so tight at the top that even a short absence from Curry may be enough to knock them out of the playoffs completely. They are barely 2.5 games ahead of the No. 13 seeded Lakers at the moment.

The Warriors have a lot of depth at the defensive backline. In Golden State, Jordan Poole, Klay Thompson, and Donte DiVincenzo have all had excellent comeback seasons, and they can all increase their minutes. The Warriors can only hope their finest player gets healthy as soon as possible, but until then, they will have to make do with a poor substitute for the greatest shooter in history.

Additionally, the 2023 NBA All-Star Game will be place on February 19 in Salt Lake City, and Curry will most likely be unable to attend. As a result of injuries, stars like Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns, Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves, and De’Aaron Fox of the Sacramento Kings might be called upon as replacements.
