Last week, a lady from Maryland was killed when her business plane hit extreme turbulence over New England. The Connecticut State Police have identified the lady as 55-year-old Dana Hyde from Cabin John, Maryland.
Hyde is a well-respected business leader who has served in the administrations of both Obama and Clinton. In her LinkedIn page, she says that she was also counsel for the 9/11 Commission.
On March 3, a Bombardier Challenger 300 encountered turbulence while flying over Connecticut. The Boston Globe stated the plane was headed from Keene, New Hampshire to Leesburg, Virginia.
It was reported that the plane experienced turbulence and was forced to make an emergency landing at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Connecticut. A medical examiner ruled Hyde dead after she was taken to Saint Francis Medical Center in Hartford.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the FBI are looking into the situation. It was claimed in the Globe that there were five individuals on board the plane.
“reported trim problem that happened previous to the in-flight upset,” the NTSB stated Monday. The flight data recorder and the cockpit voice recorder will be analysed by officials. They intend to look at weather records as well. The first report is expected in about three weeks, authorities added.
A plane’s trim system is one of its “additional” flying controls. Secondary flight controls are implemented to “enhance the aircraft performance characteristics or to relieve excessive control loading,” as SKYbrary Aviation Safety puts it.
Due to allegations of trim difficulties, the FAA warned pilots of Bombardier Challenger 300 planes last year to take extra precautions before taking off, as reported by the Associated Press.
The official cause of Hyde’s passing has not been disclosed. Hyde headed the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), an organisation established by Congress in 2004 to promote economic growth and decrease global poverty. Hyde, who has a background in law, public policy, and international development, worked for the Obama administration for eight years. According to her web profile, she previously served as Assistant Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget and Senior Adviser to the Deputy Secretary of State. She was also a Special Assistant to the Deputy Attorney General during the Clinton administration.
Hyde also contributed to the non-profit organisation, the Aspen Institute in the nation’s capital.
During her tenure at the institution, “Dana was a talented and generous colleague who worked closely with programmes throughout the organisation to develop relationships and better our collective work,” the institute stated in a statement to the Globe. All of us here at the Aspen Institute are thinking of Dana and her family during this time.
Conexon, headquartered in Kansas City, is the owner of the plane that crashed. Associated Press said that Hyde was the wife of firm partner Jonathan Chambers. Chambers was also a passenger on the aeroplane with his kid.
In a response to the AP, the plane’s maker, Bombardier, said it was unable to speculate on the root of any reported issues.
