The role of Dr. Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park films catapulted Sam Neill to international renown, and he has since gone on to direct, produce, and write for other films. He will also appear in Jurassic World: Dominion, the sequel set for release in 2022. Sam got his start as an actor in New Zealand, and the movie Sleeping Dogs helped him break out internationally. The lead part in the Australian adaptation of My Brilliant Career followed his relocation there.

After that, he became even more well-known because to his roles in films like Omen III: The Last War, Possession, A Cry in the Dark, and The Piano. Films like The Dish, Sweet Country, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, The Daughter, and The Hunter were released with his name attached to them in the years following. The seasoned actor has been in a wide variety of television shows, such as Reilly, Ace of Spies, Merlin, The Tudors, and Peaky Blinders, in addition to his film roles. Sam Neill has not only acted in but also narrated, directed, produced, and written for a wide variety of documentaries. His contributions to film and television earned him the titles of Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1991 and Distinguished Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2007.

The Profession of Sam Neill

Before devoting himself solely to acting, Sam Neill spent the first seven years of his career as a member of the New Zealand National Film Unit, where he worked on documentary films.

He made his acting debut in the 1971 New Zealand TV movie The City of No, and since then he’s been in the 1972 short film The Water Cycle, the 1973 TV movie Hunt’s Duffer, and the 1976 picture Landfall (1975). In addition to acting, writing, and directing, he also appeared in the film Telephone Etiquette in 1974.

A leading part in the drama-action thriller Sleeping Dogs (1977) brought him fame in his native New Zealand.

After that, he relocated to Australia and landed the main role in the critically acclaimed historical drama My Brilliant Career (1979). In the same year, he also started making cameo appearances as Ben Dawson on The Sullivans, a historical drama series.

Sam Neill played Damien Thorn, the Devil’s son, in the 1981 British-American supernatural horror film Omen III: The Last Battle. The film catapulted him to stardom on a global scale. In the same calendar year, he also made an appearance in another psychological horror film called Possession.

The Guardian reports that after speaking with Neill, they learned that he was diagnosed with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma and treated with chemotherapy. The publication claims he is now receiving somewhat novel chemotherapy treatment and will continue doing so on a monthly basis for the remainder of his life.

“I’m not off the hook as such, but there’s no cancer in my body,” Neill said to the media. Neill’s agent told CNN that their client is currently cancer-free.
“I can’t pretend that the last year hasn’t had its sad moments,” Neill said in the interview. “And yet, it is precisely because of those low points that I now appreciate each and every day and my many friends so much more than I ever did before. Just grateful to still be here.”

According to his spokesman, Neill is “quite healthy and back at work” at this point. The Peacock limited series “Apples Never Fall,” based on Liane Moriarty’s best-selling book “Big Little Lies,” is presently in production with him. Annette Bening co-stars with the main cast. On March 21, Neill’s book, “Did I Ever Tell You This?,” will be released. You may place a pre-order now.
