Today I mourn the passing on to glory of a dear friend, Gary Nelson. Gary was one of the most influential leaders that I know. He was loved and respected by all. He had one of the sharpest missiological minds around. He loved the Church the way it is but always challenged it with a missional impulse. He took God’s mission seriously, but never took himself too seriously. He was full of life. I am convinced that there is another level of warmth and humor in heaven now that Gary has entered it.
Gary and Carla showed special interest in Mireille and me. They supported us to no end, at the ministry level and at the personal level. Their love and care are unmatched. They quickly became special friends. Some of the most treasured times of our lives were when we vacationed together in Lebanon, in Canada, and in Europe.
Carla, you are an amazing woman. I pray that you will feel God’s embrace in real ways during this time. Afterall, He is Emmanuel, as you keep reminding us.
Our prayers go to Stacey and the family, and to the many who loved Gary.”
