On Monday, a Utah lady died while hiking in the Grand Canyon. The National Park Service was notified Monday night of an emergency scenario involving an unresponsive woman near the Ledges Camp along the Colorado River. NPS and the Arizona Department of Public Safety deployed an emergency aircraft to locate the woman and her group after getting the call, according to NPS.
About the woman who died at Grand Canyon:
Margaret Osswald, 34, of Salt Lake City, Utah, was trekking through the Grand Canyon when she fell around 20 feet, according to the National Park Service.
According to the parks service, others of her group described her as unresponsive and began performing CPR. Because it was almost dark by the time personnel arrived, rangers requested assistance from the Arizona Department of Public Safety’s emergency helicopter response team. At roughly 8:30 p.m., DPS arrived at Ledges Camp and pronounced Osswald deceased.
According to the National Park Service, to meet the river expedition at Phantom Ranch, Osswald trekked into the Grand Canyon. The incident happened on day six of a multi-day boating vacation for Osswald and her group.

Another woman died in the Grand Canyon near the Colorado River just 11 days prior to this occurrence. Mary Kelly, 68, of Colorado, died in a boating accident on March 25, according to officials. She was dragged from the Colorado River in late March and was unresponsive when park rangers arrived and started CPR.
