With the San Francisco Giants, Carlos Correa has discovered a new home, one that he very well may stay in for the rest of his career. He committed to a lengthy, $350 million, 13-year contract. Currently, it holds the fourth-largest overall contract in baseball. He was one of the top free agents as the offseason began. That only grew more accurate as more people around him signed big agreements. He was by far the best player still available when he was signed. Anyone who signed him understood they were getting one of baseball’s best shortstops and a top-tier talent. The Giants, however, may have been interested in another significant reason.

“Last year, Carlos Correa played three games against the Giants and went 8 for 12 with a double and a home run. They immediately replied, “We’re going to need that in our dugout.”
In Oracle Park, Correa had excellent plate discipline. This is a key factor in why they would have desired him. Additionally, Aaron Judge’s decision to re-sign with the New York Yankees prevented the franchise from signing him. They had to acquire Correa because San Francisco still lacked a superstar. Thankfully, they didn’t get hit by a pitch this time.

What will happen after the San Francisco Giants sign Carlos Correa?
Unfortunately, the squad still has a long way to go before they can once again be considered a serious contender. Since they finished at exactly.500 last year, Sean Manaea, Mitch Haniger, and Correa make them any better but do not elevate them to the level of a genuine contender. Even if they are willing to pay more money, there are still parts available that can be helpful. However, it has become harder to significantly improve a squad given that many top-tier free agents are off the market.
The offseason has been successful, but going forward, they’ll need to put in a little more work to get back to the 107-win team that was in 2021. They’ve started on the right path, though. Can the Twins retain Carlos Correa?
Three big-market teams with cash to spend and a shortstop need, the Yankees, Cubs, and Giants, are allegedly interested in the 28-year-old. However, the top middle-of-the-order player for Carlos Correa’s most recent team, the Twins, is still on the disabled list. Correa signed a three-year contract with the Twins last year that included an opt-out clause after each year and an annual salary of $35.1 million. That contract was indeed the biggest the Twins have ever granted to a franchise player in terms of both total value and average annual value.
The Twins’ eight-year, $184 million deal with Joe Mauer in 2010 is still the most costly in team history. However, to land Correa, the winning bid will presumably need to begin with a nine-digit number, beginning with 3. It became clear after Trea Turner signed an 11-year, $300 million contract with the Phillies. Turner is a year older than Correa, although Correa is a superior shortstop technically and in terms of hitting.
Heyman points out that Correa, who is 28 years old, is not only younger than Turner, 30, and Bogaerts, 30, but he is also not bound by a qualifying offer, which means he can be chasing an offer for himself that is worth more than $250 million.
