Henke was a professional football player before he started acting. He was a defensive lineman for the University of Arizona throughout his collegiate career and was selected by the New York Giants in the fourth round of the 1989 draught.
He signed with the Denver Broncos after being released by the Giants, and he played for them for one season, making an appearance in Super Bowl XXIV in 1990. He switched from playing football to acting, according to Variety, after suffering injuries.
