Soap opera legend Elizabeth Hubbard, 89, has passed away. She was best known for her work on As the World Turns and The Doctors. Jeremy Bennett, her son, has confirmed that she died over the weekend. Bennett thanked his friend for being “an unmovable rock that guided me through life” in a Facebook post of appreciation. For as long as I am able, I will work to keep your legacy alive.

From 1984 until the show’s cancellation in 2010, the daytime star was most known for her portrayal of Lucinda Walsh on CBS’s As the World Turns. She was nominated for eight Daytime Emmys for her efforts on the show. Dr. Althea Davis, played by Hubbard on NBC’s The Doctors, was responsible for the actress’s first Daytime Emmy. She also won a Daytime Emmy for her performance as former First Lady Edith Wilson in the 1976 TV movie First Ladies Diaries: Edith Wilson. Hubbard has also appeared on Law & Order, Hope & Faith, Life on Mars, and Anacostia, among other shows. In addition to those films, she played in The Bell Jar, Ordinary People, Cold River, and Center Stage.

Actress Martha Byrne, who played Lily Walsh, Hubbard’s on-screen daughter, on As the World Turns, also remembered the star on Instagram, writing that Hubbard “worked like HELL to bring truth and honesty to her performances.”

Elizabeth Hubbard Career

In 1955, Elizabeth Hubbard made her Broadway debut in a replacement role in a production of Threepenny Open. In 1962, she first appeared on a soap opera when she was cast as Anne Fletcher on Guiding Light. She played Carol Kramer in the film The Edge of Darkness back in 1963.

She had major parts in both television and movies during her career. In 1974, she won the Daytime Emmy Award for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her performance as Althea Davis on the NBC soap opera The Doctors.

Elizabeth Hubbard subsequently received eight Daytime Emmy Award nominations for portraying businesswoman Lucinda Walsh in the CBS serial opera As the World Turns (1984-2010).

She was also in films like I Never Sang for My Father (1970), The Bell Jar (1979), and Ordinary People (1993) in addition to her work on television (1980). Another Emmy went to her for her role as Edith Wilson in the 1976 TV movie First Ladies Diaries: Edith Wilson.

Her son Jeremy Bennett told The Hollywood Reporter that Hubbard died from cancer on Saturday at her home in Roxbury, Connecticut. Hubbard has appeared in some films, including I Never Sang for My Father (1970) as the gynaecological girlfriend of Gene Hackman’s character, The Bell Jar (1979), Ordinary People (1980), Cold River (1982), and Center Stage (1986). Hubbard was born to Elizabeth Wright Hubbard and Benjamin Alldritt Hubbard in New York City on December 22, 1933. Doctor and one of the first women to graduate with a medical degree from Columbia University, her mother was a trailblazer in the field of homoeopathy. Theodore was one of her brothers, while the other was Merle, who managed singers for operas.

Hubbard received a summa cum laude from Radcliffe College in 1955. She is the first American to win the silver medal at London’s prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). In 1957, she received her diploma from (RADA). From 1970 until 1972, she was married to furrier David Bennett; the couple had one son, Jeremy Bennett (born September 20, 1971). (Citation required) On April 8, 2023, at 89, Hubbard passed away from cancer at her home in Roxbury, Connecticut.
