Both Keenan Anderson and a relative of Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors passed away this month after being detained by police in Los Angeles.
What Happened To Keenan Anderson?
After a struggle with the police, Keenan Anderson, 31, a teacher at a charter school in the D.C. area, passed away on January 3 at a hospital in Santa Monica. The LAPD released bodycam footage of Keenan Anderson’s arrest.
According to LAPD, the officer saw a man acting erratically and running in the middle of the street. The man was later identified as Anderson. According to LAPD, a number of individuals involved in the crash told the officer that Anderson was to blame for it.
When further units came, Anderson tried to flee the scene and fled into the middle of the street, according to LAPD, who stated the officer spoke with him while he was initially cooperative. According to the department, Anderson started to resist being arrested, which led to the use of force.
According to LAPD, there was a prolonged fight during which the officers employed body weight, hard holds, a TASER, and joint locks.
Anderson can be heard screaming, “They’re trying to kill me,” in bodycam video that the agency has made public.
Anderson said, “They’re trying to George Floyd me,” as an officer threatened to use a stun gun. Seconds later, Anderson was face down on the ground and pleaded for assistance, saying, “I’m not resisting.”
Keenan Anderson Cause Of Death
After the officer used the TASER, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to the site and provided medical care. Anderson was taken to a nearby hospital, where he suffered a heart arrest and passed away.
In an Instagram post, Cullors paid tribute to her cousin, describing him as an English instructor who dealt with teenagers.
“This year, the LAPD has killed three people. One of them is a member of my family “Cullors composed. “Keenan deserves to be living at this time, and his son deserves to have his father as a role model. We will stand up for you, Keenan, and all of our loved ones who have been affected by state violence.”

The coroner’s office for Los Angeles County is currently looking into Anderson’s death. The reason and manner of their deaths have not yet been determined by the office. On January 3, both passed away.
