Darius Miles, a basketball player for the University of Alabama, was detained and charged with murder in connection with a shooting that took place near the campus on Sunday and left a 23-year-old woman dead, according to Tuscaloosa law officials.

The University of Alabama athletics department issued a statement on Sunday saying, “We were made aware of the recent charge against student-athlete Darius Miles, and he is no longer a member of the Alabama men’s basketball team.”
