Florida witnessed yet another shocking event where a teenager had taken his life and left his family in shock and grief. The shocking incident took place in Jacksonville, Florida on Thursday. Dimitri Vazquez a 17-year-old teenager went missing and then committed suicide using his mother’s revolver and his body was found decorated in a river on Tuesday.
The loss shook his family to the core and now the only memories they are cherishing are Dimitri Vazquez’s photos. Vazquez was a vibrant, bright, and intelligent child whose drastic step created a deep impact in Jacksonville.

Dimitri Vazquez was a 17-year-old resident of Jacksonville, Florida. He was vibrant, aspiring, friendly, career-oriented, kind-hearted, and had a bright future. According to his family, Dimitri always did efforts to put a smile on every person and was very much determined for his future and career. Dimitri Vazquez’s sister opens up about facing mental trauma and agony upon his brother’s sudden death. Dimitri Vazquez was 5 feet 9 inches tall weighing around 160 pounds and had long hair which he would pull back often. He went missing on Thursday Morning.

Jacksonville Country Sheriff and Florida Police Department reported that Dimitri Vazquez was last spotted at the intersection of St. John’s and Edgewood in Jacksonville. On Thursday Morning he went missing. Dimitri’s mother Lydia Simons received a text message from his 17-year-old son and she thought he was going to commit suicide. Her mother rushed to their house only to find her revolver and Dimitri Vazquez missing. Dimitri Vazquez was diagnosed with Autism and was undergoing treatment for Autism.
Dimitri’s mother rushed to resort to the help of the Jacksonville Sheriff and an immediate alert and the missing report were issued along with Vazquez’s photo. The search for Vazquez was conducted by the authorities at the places near their house and surveillance cameras were checked to trace the teen.
Lydia Simons posted for help on every social media platform to trace her son and fortunately, they were helped with tips about Dimitri’s whereabouts. Simons constantly asked the Police to issue a K-9 and Silver Alert but it wasn’t issued.
It was on 8 March 2023 (Tuesday) that the family was informed by the detective that Dimitri Vazquez’s body was found in the river and they identified the body using dental records because the body was totally damaged and decomposed.
The Family of Dimitri treats this as the Jacksonville Sheriff Department’s negligence and mistake as they didn’t report and investigated the case diligently and properly. They didn’t acknowledge the tips given by the netizens and due to the lack of care and sincerity, Dimitri Vazquez committed suicide. If the Police had been a little more active and looked into this matter then the boy would have been rescued and saved.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement released a statement that they are bound by the rules and procedures are cannot issue a child alert or an Amber Alert without getting a request application from an Investigating Agency.
