Who Was Gareth Williams?
Welsh mathematician Gareth Williams worked for MI6 and the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ). He was known as “the spy in a bag” and was discovered dead in August 2010.
Williams, who was born on September 26, 1978, in Anglesey, Wales, excelled in arithmetic, achieving his GCSE at age 10 and his A-levels at age 14. He was seventeen when he finished his computer science doctorate.
He began working for GCHQ in 2001 and, a year before his passing, was seconded to MI6 in London.
How Did Gareth Williams Died?

On August 23, 2010, Williams’ body was discovered in a suitcase inside his safe home in Pimlico, London. Police discovered him while doing a routine welfare check after receiving a report from his coworkers that he hadn’t been heard from for several days.
His body was inside a bag that was locked from the outside and contained the keys. The Metropolitan Police came to the conclusion in November 2013 that Gareth committed himself by sealing himself inside the bag.

When coroners investigated him, they found no evident damage to his body or substances in his system, therefore they did not record an obvious cause of death. On August 16, 2010, it was believed that he had indeed passed away.
Williams’ hand had hair, and unidentifiable DNA was discovered on the bag’s locks.
