Daryl Jenkins’s body was found in a field along the boundary between Washington and St. Tammany Parishes, Louisiana, months after he had been reported missing. Let’s learn more about what happened to Daryl Jenkins and why his body wasn’t found for another six months.
What led to Daryl Jenkins’s discovery of death?
St. Tammany Parish Coroner Dr. Charles Preston identified the bodies found last month along the parish boundary between Washington and St. Tammany. Inquiries were launched by the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office on January 18 after human bones were discovered in a field. The coroner’s office released a statement on Friday saying DNA testing was used to identify the bodies. On January 20th, Preston’s office was asked to participate in the investigation, and on January 24th, DNA was taken from the bodies. On February 6, after finishing the DNA analysis, the results were uploaded to the national genetics database Combined DNA Index System (CODIS).
The next day, CODIS reported a tentative match, which was verified the day before yesterday. Daryl D. Jenkins, 38 at the time of his disappearance in July 2022, has been positively confirmed as the body’s owner. The Picayune, Mississippi, Police Department reports that Jenkins has been missing since the month of September. His family has been notified by the Picayune Police Department.
The secret has been uncovered:
Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal expressed his gratitude to the St. Tammany Parish Coroner for their help and cooperation in solving the case. We appreciate the efficiency with which the courts in neighbouring parishes handle our cases. “Tragedy and criminality do not respect geopolitical boundaries,” Preston said. “We’re fortunate to have the state’s sole DNA lab right here in our Coroner’s Office, so we can provide prompt results to local police enforcement. Sheriff Seal and the Picayune Police Department are one step closer to solving this mystery and giving closure to the decedent’s family if they can positively identify Mr. Jenkins.
Washington Parish, Louisiana, Under Investigation The body of a guy who went missing in Washington Parish last summer has just been found in a field. The body of Daryl Jenkins, a former police officer, was discovered on January 18 in a field close to the boundary between Washington and St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana. A hiker allegedly uncovered what seemed to be human bones while looking for arrowheads in the woods near the parish border in Washington Parish, according to a spokesman for the sheriff. Jenkins went missing in July 2022, and his case was reported to the Picayune, Mississippi police department in September. The death is being investigated by the Washington Parish Coroner’s Office and the Sheriff’s Office.
