Action News has confirmed that Jerry Blavat, the renowned DJ known as “The Geator with the Heater” and “The Boss with the Hot Sauce,” has passed away. He was 82.
He passed away at hospice at Jefferson-Methodist Hospital at 3:45 a.m. on Friday, surrounded by his four daughters.
Jerry Blavat Cause Of Death
According to his website, Blavat recently experienced medical problems associated with a shoulder injury and had to postpone a performance at the Kimmel Cultural Campus because of his health. His precise cause of death was not revealed at the time.
His Italian mother and Jewish father raised him in South Philadelphia, and music has always been in his blood. One of the original rock-and-roll DJs, “The Geator,” changed the industry and created the “oldies” format.
Along with “The Monkees,” “Desperately Seeking Susan,” “Baby, It’s You,” and “Cookie,” Blavat made appearances on a number of television shows and motion pictures.
Early Life Of Jerry Blava
At the age of 13, he made his television debut on the first Bandstand in 1953. The Channel 6 show’s producers learned that their well-liked dancer was underage but nevertheless allowed him to participate in the record selection process.
Later on, he was the host of the dance programme “The Discophonic Scene,” which included some of the biggest stars of the day.
Blavat’s energy, talent, and instinctive ability to predict what would appeal to teenagers resulted in a syndicated radio show in the 1950s and a TV show in the 1960s.

Blavat was honoured with a spot in the Philadelphia Music Alliance Hall of Fame in 1993. His name can be seen on the Avenue of the Arts Walk of Fame in Center City.
He was later admitted to the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia Hall of Fame in 2002 and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
