A missing 11-year-old girl Madalina Cojocari from North Carolina’s mother and stepfather have been detained on suspicion of keeping the disappearance a secret for more than three weeks.

The Cornelius Police Department reports that Madalina Cojocari was last seen on the evening of November 23 at her residence. But Madalina’s family didn’t alert Bailey Middle School’s school resource officer about the 11-year-disappearance old’s until last Thursday. Madalina is a sixth-grader there.
That same day, a police investigation into Madalina’s disappearance was started in the neighbourhood.The State Bureau of Investigation and the FBI are currently assisting with the case. Madalina Cojocari, 11, was last seen on November 23 at her family’s house in Cornelius, North Carolina, but it wasn’t until December 15 that her disappearance was reported.
Diana Cojocari, Madalina’s mother, was detained on Saturday on suspicion of failing to report a child’s disappearance. She is 37 years old. Christopher Palmiter, the girl’s 60-year-old stepfather, was imprisoned on the same accusation as his wife.

Police detained Madalina’s mother Diana Cojocari, 37, and stepfather Christopher Palmiter, 60, on Saturday. They were each charged with one count of failing to report a child’s disappearance to authorities.
The pair was incarcerated at the Mecklenburg County Detention Center as of Monday.
Police stated in a Facebook post on Monday that they have widened their search for Madalina to include Lake Cornelius, which they combed by boat and is not far from her family’s house. As a precaution, officials wrote, “We are doing additional land and water searches.”

The lake search is a “precautionary measure,” according to the Charlotte field office of the FBI, who also stated in a social media post that it is simply “part of the regular investigative process.”
Just a few days prior, according to WCCB Charlotte, detectives were spotted excavating in the family’s backyard and examining the house. They did not say if they discovered any evidence connected to Madalina’s disappearance.
Madalina was last spotted sporting white t-shirt, white jacket, pink, purple, and white Adidas shoes. She is described as being about 90 pounds in weight, 4 feet 10 inches tall, with brown eyes and hair.
