He took birth in kano and he started his study at a local school and then went on to Mapo central school Ibadan. he chose to move to Ibadan grammar school for his higher studies.
He was smart and intelligent, He won the Egbe Omo Oduduwa Scholarship to attend the then University College, Ibadan. Now the university is renamed “The University of Ibadan”.
He was a student of geography and he worked all his life to make it easier for students to learn about geography. He was asked to give his services in the same university due to his hard work and competence.
Prof Akin Mabogunje was awarded many big posts during his life:
He worked all his life to find publications that can publish his work and they were published eventually. his work in the geography community was seen as very important and he was awarded many things locally and globally. first African President of the International Geographical Union was given to him. He was the first African-origin professor to be elected as a Foreign Associate of the United States National Academy of Sciences.
he has left a long line in the family. the family system in Africa is not entirely destroyed unlike in many parts of the west so he left behind his daughter, Prof. Folashade Ogunshola, a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Lagos.
