Mbongeni Ngema’s family has recently said that on 27 December 2023, Mbongeni Ngema died at the age of 68. He died in a car accident. Mbongeni Ngema died in a head-on collision with a vehicle while returning from a funeral, his family said. His family and his relatives are very sad to hear the news of his death. After his death, many tributes are being paid to him on social media.

“Ngema was killed in a head-on car crash this evening while returning from a funeral in Lusikisiki, Eastern Cape,” his family said in a statement on Wednesday. The renowned playwright was a passenger in the vehicle involved in the accident.
