Officers from the Kawartha Lakes OPP responded to a single-vehicle rollover on Pigeon Lake Road close to Downeyville, Ontario, on October 31. Lucia Colacci, the vehicle’s 51-year-old driver, was taken to the hospital but tragically passed away from her injuries.
At the Catholic Elementary School St. John Paul II, Colacci taught. On Monday morning (Nov. 1), the school board’s emergency response team was sent to the building to support the staff and pupils in the wake of her passing. Additional social workers were also appointed to the school for the day, and future pupils who require supports will have access to them.

Lucia Colacci passed away on October 31, 2022 as a result of a sad accident. Mateo (15), Marco (12), and Natalia were three of Lucia’s gorgeous children; she was a devoted wife of Jeff Kitney (7). Everybody she met was affected by this incredible individual. Her loss has crushed her family, and they are finding it difficult to adjust to their new situation. We are so deeply shocked and saddened that words fall short. In a letter to parents and guardians, St. John Paul II principal Michael DeMeyer said, “As a Catholic community built in faith, we continue to pray for Lucia’s family and all those most immediately impacted by this tragic news.
According to DeMaeyer, the Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland, and Clarington Catholic District School Board’s mental health staff’s expert suggestion was the basis for the decision to issue a statement. The consensus was that it would be better to share the news with kids at home, in a secure, age-appropriate setting.
Around 8:30 on October 31st, according to Kawartha Lakes OPP, police were called to the scene of a single-vehicle rollover on Pigeon Lake Road close to Downeyville. Colacci was taken to the hospital, but he did not make it.
