In 2020, Shaughna Phillips was one of the first ten people to live at the Love Island mansion. For the first time ever, Irish personality Laura Whitmore hosted the Cape Town-based winter episode of the show.
She met her Manchester-based partner, Callum Jones, on the first day of the first week. Jones was stolen away from Phillips the next day by fellow competitor and Cambridge native Eve Gale. Their relationship did not last, though. Jones began seeing Phillips again on day six after breaking up with Gale.
Before reconciling with Jones, Shaughna dated new roommate Connagh Howard of Cardiff. They made the same choice to remain together during week two.
At the end of Day 16, the two had triumphed in the ‘Being Trollied’ competition. Once again, on day 18, they made the decision to stay a pair.
The main villa’s Shaughna Phillips and her other contestants won the ‘Raunchy Races’ competition on day 24. But on day 26, Jones abandoned her for another contestant, Molly Smith, who was also from Manchester and had arrived on the program on day 23.
Week 5 of the program included Shaughna Phillips’ date with new islander Jamie Clayton from Edinburgh and her participation in and eventual victory at the ‘Rumpy Pumpy’ task with the Blue team. When she still hadn’t found a male partner on day 33, the producers eliminated her.
In the weeks after she left Love Island, discussions about the betrayal she felt she had suffered at the hands of Jones dominated online discussion forums. The stunning Londoner had won over the hearts of the villa’s guests with her genuine warmth and vivacity.
