Biography of Emmylou Harris
Emmylou Harris was born on April 2, 1947, in Birmingham, Alabama, to parents who met during their service in the United States Armed Forces. Emmylou Harris, when asked about her schooling, said that she had begun studying theatre. She developed an appreciation for music during her time at college, when she also learnt to play the guitar and gave public performances of the works of contemporary musicians.
Harris’s father was killed in 1952 during military operations in Korea. It turned out that he had been taken prisoner and had escaped nearly a year later. Emmylou’s upbringing followed Christian tenets.
Walter Harris, a Marine, and his wife, Eugenia, had Emmylou. Her dad was missing for ten months when he was a prisoner of war in Korea.
Emmylou grew raised in Woodbridge, Virginia, where she graduated as valedictorian from Gar-Field Senior High School.
