John also established and fronted the avant-garde post-punk band Public Image Ltd (PiL) from 1978 to 1993 and has done so again since 2009.

After being a major player in British pop culture for nearly four decades, Lydon was voted one of the 100 Greatest Britons in 2002. He is remembered for his blunt manner of speaking, rebellious persona, and edgy style.
