Eikhard, was born in Sackville, New Brunswick, in 1955. When both of her parents were part of a tiny local band called the Trantramar Ramblers in the 1950s, her mother, June Eikhard, started her career in music with her husband, the late bassist Cecil Eikhard.
Canada’s First Lady of the Fiddle, the debut album by June, her mother, was published in 1959. She started her musical career at age 12 while cheering on her mother, the legendary violinist June Eikhard, in competitions for the Canadian fiddle. At the Mariposa Folk Festival, she made her solo debut at a writers’ stage, and at the age of 14, she secured a recording contract with Capitol Records.
