Quentin Williams, a 39-year-old Middletown resident and Democrat who had just been sworn in for a third term, perished in the collision. Friends and coworkers were shocked to learn of his passing after just seeing the newly appointed co-chairman of the General Assembly’s Labor and Public Employees Committee on the first day of the 2023 legislative session on Wednesday. Williams, who had co-chaired the legislature’s housing committee, had aspirations of one day vying for higher office.

The committee was supposed to convene for the first time on Thursday. However, following the news of Williams’ passing, legislative leaders declared they had shut down the state Capitol and Legislative Office Building and delayed all legislative proceedings until Monday.
What Happened To Quentin Williams?
Just after 2:30 a.m., a car travelling the wrong way struck Williams head-on on Route 9 in Cromwell as he was travelling south toward Middletown, according to state police. After that, according to troopers, his automobile caught fire. The governor’s inauguration ball was held in Hartford, which is located about 22.5 kilometres (14 miles) south of Cromwell.
Kimede Mustafaj, 27, of Manchester, Connecticut, was the wrong-way driver, according to authorities. He also perished in the collision. There were no other parties engaged.
The cause of the collision, including any possible involvement of drugs or alcohol, was being looked into.
