On Wednesday, the most accomplished quarterback in NFL history, Tom Brady, revealed that he will be leaving the league.
Since “the procedure” was such a “big deal” the last time around, Brady decided to let his Twitter followers in on the news first thing in the morning. I promise not to go on and on. I already used my “truly thank you guys so much to every single one of you for supporting me” retirement essay from last year.
Even in his final season, in which he threw for 4,694 yards (third-most in the NFL), Brady was known for his famous ruthlessness and dedication to winning. Although Brady’s 45-year-old Buccaneers finished with a losing record for the first time in his starting career, they still made the playoffs because to the NFC South’s overall poor performance. The Dallas Cowboys eliminated them from the playoffs in the opening round.
Almost as extensive as Brady’s career is his list of accomplishments. He holds the record for most Super Bowl victories by an individual player in NFL history with seven (six with the New England Patriots and one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers). Not only does he have the most passing yards in NFL history, but he also has the most throwing touchdowns (649) in NFL history (89,214). Even more remarkable is the fact that Brady has appeared in nearly a fifth of all Super Bowls ever played, while no other quarterback has played in a Super Bowl after the age of 40 (Brady has played in three, winning two). His 35 playoff wins are more than 13 other teams have appeared in, and he has appeared in nearly a fifth of all Super Bowls ever played.
Brady stated in the video posted on Wednesday, “My family, my friends, my teammates, my opponents – I could go on for ever, there’s too many.” It’s because to you folks that I get to experience the fulfilment of a lifelong ambition. Nothing about it needs improving. Have a lot of love for you all.
Brady has said goodbye before. Exactly one year ago, he announced his retirement. Forty days later, he decided to return to the Buccaneers, saying he had “unfinished business” with the team. However, injuries sapped Tampa’s strength, and Brady’s off-field problems seemed to dampen his last season.
Rememberably, Brady was undervalued right out of college. Before Brady was taken by the New England Patriots in the 2000 NFL draught, 198 other players were chosen. Six of those players were quarterbacks. When Brady first met Patriots owner Robert Kraft, he reportedly said, “I’m Tom Brady, and I’m the finest choice this organisation ever made.”
Tom Brady has more victories than any other NFL quarterback.
Truthfully, Brady was right. After working his way up from the fourth string, he was New England’s backup quarterback for Drew Bledsoe. With Bledsoe out for the season due to an early 2001 injury, Brady stepped up and never looked back. He ended up winning seven Super Bowls, was named NFL Most Valuable Player three times, and set or tied virtually every key passing mark in league history.
Bill Belichick, Brady’s coach in New England where they won six Super Bowls together, stated in 2021, “I believe I’ve gone on the record dozens of times saying there’s no quarterback I’d rather have than Tom Brady, and I still feel that way.” I can honestly say that I was blessed to have coached Tom as quarterback.
On Wednesday, Brady’s fellow sports stars paid tribute to him.
“The Greatest of All Time. There is absolutely zero room for discussion here. Three-time NFL defensive player of the year JJ Watt said on Twitter that winning the award was “an honour and a privilege.”
Derek Jeter, a former New York Yankees great who controlled MLB in the same way that Tom Brady dominated the NFL, has complimented Brady “on an outstanding career. Observing it was a pleasure.
Now that his playing days are behind, Brady can focus on his profitable business ventures. Last year he secured a 10-year broadcasting agreement with Fox Sports, and he also runs a fashion and wellness company. According to the New York Post, the agreement is for $375 million, which is more than Brady made in his NFL career ($332,000).
