Who is Bob Knight?

Bob Knight, whose real name is Robert Montgomery Knight, was a legendary American basketball coach. He led his teams to a record 902 victories in NCAA Division I men’s collegiate basketball before retiring. Knight coached at Army from 1965 to 1971, then at Indiana University from 1971 to 2000, and then at Texas Tech from 2001 to 2008. He was born in Massillon, Ohio, in 1940, although he spent most of his childhood and high school years in Orrville, where he participated in his first organized basketball league.

For a long time now, Knight is in Bloomington which is his permanent home. He had vowed not to return to the program from which he had been sacked in 2000, but in 2020, he did just that by attending an IU-Purdue game. Since March 2021, when Mike Woodson, who played under Knight from 1976 to 1980, was appointed head coach, Knight has regularly observed the team’s practices from the sidelines.

Bob Knight Illness

According to his son, former Indiana Hoosiers head coach Bob Knight was discharged from a hospital in Bloomington on Tuesday after being treated over the weekend for treatment of an unidentified ailment. In an email sent out on Friday, the university asked former Indiana basketball players to pray for Knight. Still, no further information about his condition was shared until Monday. In his illustrious 82-year coaching career, Knight has led Indiana to three national championships, eleven Big Ten crowns, and 662 victories. A review of complaints made by former player Neil Reed, who died in 2012, led to his dismissal from the team in September 2000; the investigation found that he had grabbed a student by the arm in a hallway in violation of the university’s zero-tolerance policy on physical and verbal harassment. Knight’s former student and current Hoosiers coach Mike Woodson oversaw the team this season despite Knight’s declining health.
