On Sunday morning a piece of devastating news from the Plymouth County Attorney’s Office came forward which stated that a 17-year-old teenager died in the Marshfield crash. He was reported to be a student at Norwell High School, Nicholas Wanderley. Authorities said Wanderley was with two other minors in Marshfield when the car crashed into a tree at 172 Forest St. after midnight Sunday.

Two other minors, a 16-year-old boy who was driving the car and a 16-year-old passenger, were seriously injured in the crash, according to prosecutors.

According to authorities, the 16-year-old motorist was brought to Boston Children’s Hospital for treatment. The 16-year-old passenger was sent to South Shore Hospital for treatment. Wanderley died as a result of injuries he received at the scene, according to the district attorney’s office.

Norwell Public Schools Superintendent Matthew Keegan published a statement in response to the news of Wanderley’s death, according to 7 News Boston. “He certainly attended to a lot of schools and had a lot of friends,” added the superintendent. “Because we spend all of our time educating, developing community, and preparing people for their futures, losing a student is a tragic loss for our community.”

The investigation into the event is still ongoing, according to the district attorney’s office.

“Marshfield Police contacted Massachusetts State Troopers assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office and an investigation commenced. Preliminarily, it appears that the motor vehicle was traveling south on Forest Street when it crossed the double yellow line and struck a tree,” said the police who were investigating the accident.

However, there is no personal information collected by the media outlets about the three minors who were in the fatal accident. Nicholas died on the spot after the accident and the other two juveniles were taken to the hospital and are now in critical condition. The news of the death of the child was confirmed by the Marshfield police who announced the incident through a Facebook post where he wrote, “Our hearts go out to the children and families involved and the entire Norwell community.”

The principal of Norwell High School also expressed the grief on the passing of one of the most talented students and mailed about the same to the students and parents and announced that the school will be conducting grief counselors for a week in remembrance of Nicholas Wanderley.
