How Did Black Stalin Died?

Five-time Calypso Monarch Dr. Leroy Calliste, also known as Black Stalin, passed away on Wednesday morning at his San Fernando home.

Stalin, who had been ill for a while, turned 81 on Republic Day. Leroy Calliste, also known as The Black Stalin, passed away this morning at his home in San Fernando. Pastry, his wife, confirmed his passing.

Black Stalin Cause Of Death

Stalin passed away quietly at home on Wednesday at around 9:45 am, surrounded by his loved ones, according to Stalin’s wife Pastry.

Pastry asserted that the staff at the San Fernando General Hospital provided him with excellent care throughout his three weeks there.

On December 28, 2022, Leroy Calliste, well known by his stage moniker Black Stalin, unfortunately passed away. He had a mini-stroke in 2014 following a charity performance in south Trinidad.

Stalin suffered a stroke eight years ago, and he has been ailing ever since. Patsy thanked his kids and grandkids for helping her take care of dad during that trying time.

Black Stalin, a stage name for Leroy Calliste, was born in San Fernando on September 24, 1941. He was a well-known calypsonist from Trinidad and Tobago who was known for his lyrics criticising the persecution of European colonists.

His Career

In 1979, Caribbean Man and Play One helped Black Stalin win the title of National Calypso Monarch. In 1985, 1987, 1991, and 1995, he would retake the crown.

He was named Calypso King of the World in 1999 after winning the Calypso Monarch competition five times. Stalin was awarded Calypso King of Kings in 1999 for his rendition of “Black Man Feeling to Party,” “Wine, Boy” (also known as “Wine, Dhanraj, Wine”)

Fellow calypsonist Blakie gave him the nickname “Black Stalin” in the middle of the 1960s. In 1967, Stalin entered the Calypso Revue tent in Kitchener and took home the Calypso Monarch title. Stalin left behind a wife, five children, and one grandchild.
