The Justice Department stated on Wednesday that Chance Seneca, a Louisiana man, had been given a 45-year jail term for kidnapping and attempting to kill a gay youngster as part of a larger hate crime plot aimed at guys using an LGBTQ dating service.

Who Is Chance Seneca?

Chance Seneca, 21, entered a guilty plea in September and said that he had abducted the boy he had met on Grindr with the purpose to kill him and mutilate his body.

The Justice Department discovered that Seneca purposefully targeted the kid and other gay males because of their sexual orientation, which was one of several considerations that went into determining his decades-long sentence.

Seneca allegedly spent months “planning a murder-kidnapping operation that matched the murders of LGBT men committed by the legendary serial murderer Jeffrey Dahmer,” according to the Justice Department. Additionally, was stated that Seneca, like Dahmer, intended to consume and save the body parts of his victims.

According to Kristen Clarke, an assistant attorney general for the department’s civil rights division, “the facts of this case are truly shocking, and the defendant’s decision to specifically target gay men is a disturbing reminder of the unique prejudices and dangers facing the LGBTQ+ community today.” Regardless of gender or sexual orientation, all Americans should have safe access to the internet.

Chance Seneca Admitted His Accusations

According to a prior Justice Department statement, Seneca stated last year that he planned to murder the victim, Holden White, who was then 18, in June 2020 “for the purpose of gratifying his homicidal inclinations.” White was left in a coma for three days despite surviving the gruesome assault.

According to the Justice Department, Seneca admitted after his arrest that he wanted to kill other gay males until he was apprehended or died himself. Seneca allegedly tried to kidnap a different man and allegedly kidnapped another within days of his assault on White, the Justice Department claimed in an earlier statement.

In what looked to be response to Seneca’s sentence, White posted a brief remark on Facebook on Wednesday that simply said, “45 years.”

The Grindr case in Louisiana is one of many instances where individuals have used the dating app to target LGBTQ people globally. Grindr was founded in 2009 and is primarily used by gay men.

Stephen Port, a British serial killer known as “The Grindr Killer,” received a life sentence in jail in 2016 after drugging, raping, and killing four men he met on the app.
