Following a battle with liver cancer, McBain passed away on Wednesday morning at the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills, according to her friend and writing partner Michael Gregg Michaud.
McBain also appeared in four episodes of ABC’s Batman as a guest actor, first appearing in a 1966 episode as a hat store employee working closely with David Wayne’s Mad Hatter and then in a 1967 episode as the owner of a stamp firm named Pinky Pinkston, who wore exclusively pink and had a pink dog.
Who Was Diane McBain?
McBain, who was born in Cleveland on May 18, 1941, relocated to Glendale with her family in 1944. While performing in a play at Glendale High School, she was noticed by a talent scout, and on the occasion of her 18th birthday, Warners signed her to a seven-year contract. As a teen, she modelled for TV commercials and magazine advertisements.
She explained to Lisanti, “They gave me the role of Richard Burton’s granddaughter in Ice Palace when I was ready to graduate from high school. And would you believe it, I had no idea who Richard Burton was! … I was a teenybopper, and he was an English actor.

In addition to Surfside 6, she appeared on numerous other Warner Bros. TV shows, including The Alaskans, Sugarfoot, Lawman, 77 Sunset Strip, Hawaiian Eye, and Bourbon Street Beat. She had made her on-screen debut in 1959 on an episode of ABC’s Maverick.
