Mason Greenwood’s career suffered a plunge following the event, when he was anticipated to be the leader of Manchester United’s forward group. As accusations against Mason Greenwood were dismissed after crucial witnesses withdrew their testimony, Erik ten Hag declined to comment on the player’s immediate future. In January of 2022, the 21-year-old was charged with attempted rape and other offences, and since then, Manchester United has suspended him.
When asked about Mason Greenwood’s future, Erik ten Hag remained silent.
Mason Greenwood’s career suffered a fall following the incident and he was no longer seen as the leader of Manchester United’s forward group. The attacker is flexible enough to play anywhere in the front three, but it was his goal-scoring prowess that made him an instant hit at Old Trafford.
Since taking over as manager, Erik ten Hag of the Netherlands has surrounded himself with a powerful inner circle at the club, and the potential departure of Cristiano Ronaldo is a prime example. The Portuguese manager had to settle with the Red Devils amicably in the midst of the season, and it was all because to his furious interview with Piers Morgan.
The manager made it quite clear that he would not be commenting on the present situation in Greenwood. “There’s no way for me to remark on the procedure right now. There’s nothing I can say about it. To that end, I’ll just point you to the club’s statement, to which I have nothing to add at the present time.”
“No matter what is going on, we must never lose sight of the game at hand. We have to do it.”
Manchester United previously declared that it would make no more remarks and would instead wait until all necessary procedures had been completed.
“That Mason Greenwood’s charges were withdrawn by the Crown Prosecution Service is something Manchester United has taken notice of.
The club will now have to go through its own internal procedure before deciding what to do next. Until then, we shall withhold further comment.”
Currently, Greenwood’s contract is set to expire in 2025, although the club has the option to extend it for another year. His current annual salary is £4 million.
